Measurements: Stretched or unstretched?

When you provide measurements to a WAHM for custom wool, does it come with the correct measurements in a stretched or at rest position?

For example, my dd's waist is 16. Today I got a cover that is about 12 inches at rest and 16 fully stretched. Which means it is super tight and she really can't wear it. She has another cover (same material) with a 17 inch waist (not custom) and it gaps at the back so it is loose.

Did I do something wrong in providing the measurements? Will it stretch out as it is worn?

Hmm...I would think you give her your dds measurements and she figures out what they should be. a 12" unstretched waist is a bit small for a 16" waist.

I would say that it should have been 16 at rest or just under 16 at rest, definately not 12!

That's what I thought Unfortunately I don't think I am the only person this has happened to lately.

Well, I'm going to try it again before I email her. I just put it on dd quickly and then went on to something else--I got four packages today so at least I have some other things to be excited about.

When I make a custom I use the actual measurements, unstretched. 12 is too small and it's not accurate if you are given stretched measurements, IMO.

Re: Measurements: Stretched or unstretched?

When I sell something I always measure it unstretched so that I get the best idea of the smallest it will go. And in buying something for my dd, I make sure she's within 2 inches of that unstretched measurement(if she's bigger of coruse) so that I can be sure it won't be too tight. The wahm needs to be contacted for a refund or to fix the problem. AND you need to leave feedback on HC. This happened to me recently. I PM'ed you about it. Good luck. PM me if you have any questions about my problems. It's happeneed to quite a few of us lately. Kinda sad. There are a ton of reputable wahm's on HC that will make you something you will enjoy and that will work for your child though. Please check HC feedback on their forums to be sure you are working with someone reliable!!!!

Re: Measurements: Stretched or unstretched?

Thank you everyone. I am very disappointed. I would rather not say who it is because I am working to rectify the situation. No, I did not read feedback, and yes, I have learned my lesson and always will in the future!

I just went and measured it again very carefully. The waist is actually closer to 13 (supposed to be 16). The thighs are 7 1/2 (should be 10) and the rise is 16 (should be 18 but there is a lot more stretch in the body than in the waist and thighs so this rise actually works fine).

I emailed her and am hoping she can fix the situation and improve her feedback.

I hope she does. I think a new soaker with correct measurements is in order.
