Placental location and sex of baby?

Interesting. Just one more thing to bother my ob with on friday lol!

http://www.obgyn.net/ultrasound/ultr...ental_location

Quote:
Dramatic differences were detected in chorionic villi / placental location according to gender. 97.2% of the male fetuses had a chorionic villi/placenta location on the right side of the uterus whereas, 2.4% had a chorionic villi/placenta location to the left of the uterus. On the other hand 97.5% of female fetuses had a chorionic villi/placenta location to the left of the uterus.
I guess determining it from an u/s pic won't work because it is taken from different angles. You'd have to ask the u/s tech or doctor.

Re: Placental location and sex of baby?

oh awesome! I'll have to ask next week! Does anyone know if u/s photos are mirrored or like my right is the left side of the photo and vice/versa. I think from from I remember from the monitor and the way she was pointing the thingy, it's on my right side.
Although, what if it's in the front (like with my DD) or on top? I'm guessing it's hardly dead center, but then it'd be super hard to tell

One more reason waiting until next thurs is going to be hard!

I've heard of this before... very interesting.
When I asked my US tech what side my placenta was on she looked at me like I had 2 heads and told me it was way to early to tell (7wks). Maybe I'll ask again at my NT scan in a couple weeks...

Re: Placental location and sex of baby?

So I just had a scan yesterday and my ultrasound tech said the placenta was interior. I asked her what that meant and she said it was on the front of my uterus. The pic was taken abdominally and my little one is smushed against the right side. Soooo....any ideas what that would mean?

I think that even though a placenta can be interior or posterior that it's not usually dead center. Front or back doesn't give you any hints as to the gender of your baby.

Mine yesterday threw me off. i don't know if it changes the later you get or what. I had a pretty anterior, slightly left placenta, but it was clearly a boy. Strange!

Re: Placental location and sex of baby?

*MonkeyMomma* Hi I'm to this but my tech told me the same thing that my baby's placenta was interior . The ultrasound was abdominaly and I was wonder the sex of yoor baby. If that's okay. I'm only 8weeks and 4 days. I can't wait to see if I end up the same sex.
