Re: Anyone with Autism/Adhd medicating?

The benefits of the medication outweighed the risk of the side affects for us. I was starting to get scared to leave jake alone because she was SOOO aggressive and violent towards him she told me often that she wanted him dead, and I fully believe she meant it.. I was tired of considering locking my door so I didn't have to worry about her killing me while I sleep.

So yeah.

You actually don't medicate for ASD. they Medicate for Anxiety, or whatever other symptoms they might have.

Miranda is on Risperidone. she's been on it for a year and we haven't had any side affects, unless you count being able to sleep at night and not worry about your son a side affect. lol

I have however heard of other kids gaining tons of weight on it or sleeping too much, possible depression symptom. like I said though, Miranda has been fine.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

This is a bit of an older thread (we are months into medication now) but I wanted to mention jic you didnt notice my post above. When I talked to our pedi about the RAST test he said it can be fairly inaccurate by way of showing positives for outgrown allergens. Just something to consider.

I am still very interested in an elimination diet but I must admit, with a limited budget and a family of growing boys who eat a lot, I am not very creative in trying new recipes. I tend to stick to the same stuff I know they love and stuff I know I can stretch or make some variation of it to make it 'new'. DS is very picky and Im afraid he wouldnt eat if I removed his 'things'.
