I am thinking about getting a crock pot, or slow cooker (not sure what the difference is). I was looking at some online and some are pretty cheap and others are well over a hundred. I have never used one before in my life and thought I would ask what works for other people and what to look for when buying one. Thanks so much!!

I have a 5 quart crockpot brand that I bought from target for $19. It button on the front for me to select High for 4 or 6 hours or Low for 8 or 10 hrs.
I also have a very small 1.5 quart cheapy that I used when I just cooking meat. I think the smaller size helps the meat cook instead of swimming in my regular size crock pot.

I prefer the plain crockpots/slow cooker similar to what pp has.The fancier they are the more there is to go wrong.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. It's like 3 crockpots in one, you have the 3 sizes. I often have yesterday's crock on the fridge and another crock going. My only complaint is that the one in the fridge gets an aluminum foil lid.

We received it as a wedding present and it's awful. Warm is more like low and low boils liquids. High will burn anything to a crisp. I will probably never get another stainless steel one. I'm not sure if others are insulated, but the outside gets very, very hot. I've burnt my arm pretty good on it a couple times reaching for something else around it. It's only a matter of time before a little burns their finger on it, I need to get rid of it.

yes, this is usually true--same for dishwashers, laundry machines, etc--no FANCY buttons! lol
I would love to find a crockpot that has a browning option though, so I dont have to brown meat on the stove first. Kinda ruins the whole one-pot cooking for me...I get lazy in the kitchen!

I have this one also (different colors once again) and think it is great! I found mine on clearance at Walmart I think...but I LOVE that it has the different sizes. Before this I had one that was HUGE and burnt everything (something had to be wrong with the settings inside of it) so I thought I never liked the crockpot and now it is def. my friend!

I have this one too! Mine is white with flowery things on it...but I only paid $23 on clearance at walmart a few years ago. I LOVE it!

I have this Zisha clay one on my wish list on amazon right now though. I love that it's more natural...my best friend has one and it cooks food SOO well!
