Yes, the scar tissue will loosen. Because he's a baby and his skin is still so fresh and new it will happen fairly quickly. Some surgeons recommend massaging a few weeks or months after surgery but ours didn't. What I do instead is I squeeze his cheeks to force his lips into a pucker and make a game out of it, doing it as many times in a row as he will let me.

Yeah, that definitely sounds like a significant lip tie! Do a google search and read up on it. And just to warn you, our surgeon totally blew me off. Most people don't know how strongly that lip tie can affect breastfeeding. :/

I'll have to remember the massage and pucker squish! As for the lip tie, I called the surgeon's office about it a couple of weeks ago. The Dr. said he didn't think it was too bad, but he would check it out again the day of surgery and could easily take care of it if necessary. Hopefully he's not blowing me off! I just hope I can remember to remind him about it again if he doesn't mention it (I guess I need to make a list of questions!). I already feel sick when I think about our surgery next week, so I'm hoping I can keep it together.

Thanks for checking in! The surgery went great. It was a rough couple of weeks following, but we're finally starting to get back to "normal". It took a couple of days for ds to nurse again after surgery, but he hasn't had any issues since We were able to take his no-nos off a few days ago, and this boy is so much happier!! I'm really glad it's over with.
