Re: How to make CD work with 2 in diapers?

I agree with pp. Simplify. simplify simplify.

I had two in diapers for about 4 months til dd potty trained/learned.

For my 2 yo I had gmd red edge that I trifolded into Flips. That was IT. That was her stash. It made changing her quick and easy and dh could do it no problem.

For the baby I had preemie pfs and proraps and then when she got bigger I had infant pf's flats and thirsties duo size 1's. I did snappi for her because I wanted to save my covers and cut down on laundry. I had 9 covers and it was WAY too many. I could have been just fine with 4 or 5 max. I used gerber pfs for the little newbie stage. But I didn't use them very much because I didn't have time for folding the diaper laundry.

Then I washed probably every other day. Since it was all pfs and covers it was quick and easy to put away and if I didn't have time to do that it could sit in a basket and just be grabbed and pulled out for a diaper change.

Re: How to make CD work with 2 in diapers?

I don't know what's easiest or hardest when diapering two kids. Some of the suggestions listed above sound really complicated, some sound easier. How it goes for you is going to largely depend on what kinds of diapers you want to use - the "easy" ones or are you on a strict prefolds/flats budget. A washer only holds so many diapers, so washing can only be put off for so long. I don't let the wash pile up, but I do wait and fold a couple of loads at a time.

This is what we've got....

Generally speaking, my kids don't share diapers because they are sized. We have prefolds, covers, and a few AIO's for the baby. the prefolds are sized. Older has GMD browns and younger has yellows. Mostly Flip covers with two separate rise settings. I like to be able to swap if one kid runs out.

Like most mamas, we have a separate system for nights. I have had incredible success diapering 3 kids overnight with a Flip organic inserts (1 or 2) in Thirsties sized or duo size 2 covers. We have had almost no leaks ever in 5 years of night diapering. The night diapers are stored where we dress for bed.

If you are looking for a true, simple system, go with flats. They are incredibly versatile, can be folded to fit the exact needs of each kid in diapers, and they wash like a dream. Doubled or tripled in a cover and they will work for nights. Folding flats can be a drag, though. I don't personally care for folding flats OR stuffing pockets.

Re: How to make CD work with 2 in diapers?

I have been cloth diapering 2 in diapers almost constantly since I started using cloth diapers. My now 4 yr old potty trained at 3.5 yrs old, last summer, and my new little guy was born in October and we had 2 months of sposies for him. That's the only time I have been down to one. So for me, I don't really know any different, it's how I started cloth diapering.

I keep my cloth simple. I use flips. That's all I use. Flip covers, Flip stay dry inserts and Flip organic inserts. There's no "daddy diapers" or night time diapers or any of that.

I keep laundry simple. Wash all diapers together. Just wash the diapers. Throw them in, set the machine for extra large wash, put Tide with bleach in, hang covers, the rest goes in the dryer. There's no special routine, no special detergents, no special anything. In fact, I wash my kids clothes with my diapers. That's because they get so dirty anyway. The clothes are often covered in dirt from the yard, oil from the garage (no I don't let the kids play in oil, but they do play in the garage as an alternative to being outside in cold rainy weather and the floor is grimy) and yes, poop from the diapers. Not that they leak, but my 2 yr old in particular is rather fidgety, so she often gets poop smeared while I am changing her. I treat the diapers exactly like I treat clothes that are extra dirty...and the clothes are always extra dirty lol.

I throw in a load of diapers in the morning, it's the first thing I do. When it's done I toss it in the dryer and hang the covers. Right now, the covers get hung all over the washer and dryer since I don't have an indoor line yet. When I get the chance, I fold the laundry and prep the diapers, putting inserts in the covers, snapping the rises on the ones I use for DS and putting them on the shelf in the changing table.

I also don't have a lot of diapers. I only have enough to manage laundry every other day. I have 8 organic inserts, those are for DD3. I have 20 stay dry inserts. I have about 18 or so covers total. DD's diapers use one stay dry and one organic insert, DS just uses a stay dry. And the only thing I separate between the 2 is that the girly covers are for DD...that's just for DH's sake. I will put a blue cover on DD if I need to, but DH doesn't like me to use a Lovelace on DS. I will if I have to, but I avoid it when I can If I havne't had a chance to fold yet, I can grab any cover and any insert from the dryer and put it on whichever kid needs it. I figure if it's clean enough to go on DD's bum, it's clean enough to go on DS's bum.

So, long way to say, I use the Kiss Method-Keep It Simple, Silly

That sounds awesome! Were you able to use flips for the newbie stage?

Re: How to make CD work with 2 in diapers?

I have 3 in diapers. My special needs 4 year old uses flip trainers (2, 3 pads) and one other snapping trainer. She uses large fuzzibunz to sleep in.

The babies use prefolds/ flats at home. AIOs if we go out. I started with pockets but stuffing them became a huge chore for me. I find pad folding diapers tons easier, and the laundry super easy to keep up on. I wash everyday.

Re: How to make CD work with 2 in diapers?

My older two were 20 months apart and once the younger was out of nb size this is what I had:

12 GMD pf for baby
12 GMD pf for toddler
12 flats to share
12 BG elementals to share
4 Thirsties Duo covers size 2 (the baby fit in these thanks to the cross over tabs)
6 BG pockets for nights

Except for the pfs they could share everything so if we were going out I could just grab 4 diapers and not really worry about which may need them. I did diaper laundry every other day.

I like this stash for 2, almost exactly what I have planned for my toddler and newbie!

Re: How to make CD work with 2 in diapers?

DD2 and DD3 will be 16 months apart. Im still working on my newborn stash but my plan is:

18 orange edge pfs
18 yellow edge pfs
4 thirsties duo size.1
6 lil joeys (3 down,3 to go)
6 bumgenius xs (4 down, 2 to go)
6 simplex newborn to use mostly between the time.that the other newborn Aios don't fit but before she can share with DD2 (1 down, 5 to go)

For DD2 I currently have
12 Grovia Aios
12 BG 4.0s stuffed with thirsties hemp inserts
10 Econobum pfs
2 Econobum covers
1 blueberry coverall

I may add 6 more Econobum pfs and 2 covers.

Don't really wanna have too many dipes so Im not tempted to get lazy with laundry. If i find.its.not.enough I will add more then
