I have not, but when researching pull on covers a lot of moms like to use them for the newborn stage.(: And Nickis has a high rise. Hope that helps!

I loved them with my newborn! They aren't the longest lasting covers, but since they are sized they don't have to be. There is one under the onesie in this pic, you can see the chevron pattern. She was 3 weeks old, probably around 7 lbs. Oh, and I almost exclusively used them over fitteds. They worked with snappied prefolds as well.

How do you keep the inserts from bunching up? or are they pockets?

With this cover you would typically use a prefold with a snappi or a fitted.
