Little Girls and Doll Houses

Okay, so I bought DD this great little Plan Toys doll house a while back at a thrift store for like $7 thinking she would love it. Well as of yet, it hasn't really seen any love. We also picked up various doll house furniture and people along the way at yard sales, etc...all of it has just been sitting around taking up space. Now I'm on a big decluttering purge, and I'm trying to decide whether to hang on to it or not.

So at what age did your little ones play with a doll house? (poll coming)

Re: Little Girls and Doll Houses

Just realized I specified little "girls" but I really meant any little ones.

Re: Little Girls and Doll Houses

Both my girls started to love their doll houses around age 2. They both have an obsession with small figurines and they loved putting them to bed in the doll house.

Re: Little Girls and Doll Houses

I only have boys but they have both loved doll houses from the word go. We have several types actually. We have had the Fisher Price Little people doll house back when they were just tiny, we have a Hamtaro house and hamsters, Tharen has a whole Hello Kitty village of tiny houses and people, and we have a Sylvanian family house and critters (the Sylvanian house was mine, he has it now). We also have a Melissa and Doug Castle and Playmobil people. I think we have far too many toys, probably because my boys are farther apart in age so their toys have been combined over time, we also used to have a play room so we had more toys. I didn't actually ever play with dolls and doll houses. The Sylvanian house was more of a collectible when I was a teen. I liked the little animals that lived in them but I really just set them up and walked away never actually played with them. I never had dolls or a doll house because I was never interested in them. It is possible your child will never be interested but I would give just a little more time to see. When I was doing childcare at the nursery in my UU church I found that most kids, regardless of gender, enjoyed the big dollhouse.

Re: Little Girls and Doll Houses

My 4 year old has never taken a lick of interest in ours. My 18 month old loves it. I think it depends on the kid TBH. My 4 year old would rather pretend SHE is something (a princess, a superhero...etc) then play pretend with a doll. My 18 month old has no interest in dressing up, but loves to play with dolls.

Re: Little Girls and Doll Houses

My DD is 2 and rec'd a dollhouse for her birthday in Feb. She loves it - puts the people to bed, makes sure they all "go potty" and that everyone eats cereal. But I agree that it probably just depends on the child. Nothing my doll-loving and much beloved Aunt could do ever got me to play with dolls. I just wasn't into it.

My dd has no interest in one, but she is still 2. She would much rather play with dinosaurs or blocks.

Dd1 loved playing with a dollhouse around age 2 but by 4ish was done playing with it.

Dd2 has never really played with a dollhouse. Every once in awhile she'll sit and play with it but not often.

My 7 year old never liked dolls or dollhouses. I even kept all of my old dolls for her and she couldn't care less.

Both my nieces love their dollhouse, it's their favorite toy. The younger one has played with it since about 2 and the older one about 3, they mostly play it together. My DD is 16 months and loves playing figurines but only making them talk and dance, not play house yet.
