# of Flats/prefolds for NB

I will be CD from the start on my baby due at the beginning of December and am wondering how many smaller prefolds/flats you ladies would recommend? I was planning on doing laundry every 2 days. Would 24 each small prefolds/flats do the job? What about the number of covers? Do you think I could get away with 6?

Thanks for the input!

You could get away with 6 covers, especially if you always fasten with a jellyroll around the legs. 36 total diapers is totally sufficient, but since you end up using them for other things like spit up etc, 48 is a nice healthy amount with a big safety margin.

When each of my 3 were newbies I had 24 prefolds, about 9 fitteds and 6 covers. Worked perfectly and I always had extras around. Even when, in those foggy first few weeks, I had those "oh crap I forgot to wash diapers" moments

I had 36 gmd small flats. They end up being used for everything else besides diapers. Blankets, burpcloths, light blankets, changing pads....everything. I could never survive caring for a newborn without flats!

6 covers should work esp if pinning. Otherwise you may want 8-10 covers for padfolding.
I started with 18flats for my NB and was washing every 1-1.5 days. Id say with 24 you could wash every second day but that may be pushing it. 30 would definitly allow washing every second day.

awesome, thanks! Thank goodness I have a little bit of a stash left over from DD, now I don't feel like I need to spend a ton to get this little guy covered

Re: # of Flats/prefolds for NB

I would say 30 min changes (so prefolds/flats if that is all you are doing) and a cover should last 3-4 changes if attached on, so 8 covers is nice.

If you decide to stick with 24 changes, 6 covers would be fine but you'd probably be washing more like every 1.5 days.

I always recommend 3-4 dozen flats/prefolds total and 6-8 covers.
