Receiving blankets as CD for newborn

Anyone use receiving blankets as CDs for their newborn? Do you use an insert as well? What kind of folds work best?

I imagine it would depend on what size the receiving blanket was I used Osocosy flats on my newborn with are smaller than many flats and rectangular like most receiving blankets. I did not need a doubler/insert. I liked the neat fold - its great for rectangular flats.

I used some small newborn gerber muslin flats, super thin and tiny. I used a doubler with them and the kite fold. Can see a pic of DS in both if click " first diaper" in sig.

Oh I also use Ikea Kitchen towels as flats and they worked okay, still smaller than a receiving blanket though.

Standard flannel receiving blankets are pretty bulky on a newborn.

I'm another that does gerber flats for newborns. For about 3 weeks a single one, then I double them once output dictates and use them til about 6 months when I switch to regular one size birdseye or muslin flats.
