Thrush!

My 2 month old and I have thrush. Although she's my second and I nursed my son for 2 years, this is the first time I've dealt with this issue. I know I'm supposed to use Gentian violet, but for how long? How many times a day? Tips and tricks from Moms who've been there would be much appreciated!

If gentian violet doesn't work, try grapefruit seed extract: http://drjaygordon.com/breastfeeding/thrush.html

Re: Thrush!

I don't know if this helps but when my son and I had thrush when he was 2 months old, the prescription from the doctor cleared it up in 24 hours.

Re: Thrush!

Same here... I was given a prescription of Diflucan to put on my nipples and it cleared right up.

Re: Thrush!

It's finally clearing up. But next time, we'll go straight for Diflucan!

Re: Thrush!

Just another helpful hint. My second daughter has had a constant thrush infection that has not bothered either of us. Doc said not to worry no need to treat if it doesn't bother us. I have started putting coconut oil in her mouth once a day and her mouth is clearing up. Just in case this helps anyone else....

Re: Thrush!

I know this is old, but another thrush tip I've learned. I mix melted coconut oil with apple cider vinegar and put it on my nipples and in baby's mouth. Thrush is gone quickly. It's not as messy or controversial as gentian violet and works better and faster than any prescription I've tried.
