If you could start from scratch...

My first baby is 3 months old, and actually cloth diapering is so much different from just reading about it online (duh, right?). I've been thinking if I had known what I know now, when I was pregnant and buying cloth diapers, I would have bought a lot differently.

Wouldn't have bothered with newborn prefolds or any other prefolds, for example, even though I thought I would love them! It turns out I really like pockets because of the stay-dry fleece layer.

So, if you were starting from scratch, knowing what you know now, what would you buy?

ETA: well, one month later (Feb 19) I've done a complete 180! I now love my prefolds, and don't like my pockets. I just can't get a good enough fit with any of the pockets to completely prevent leaks, now that my baby is peeing less frequently, but in greater volume. I'm keeping them around, in case they work better in the future (they mainly leak if she is lying down, which she'll be doing less of as she gets older). But right now I'm loving putting soft, natural cotton against her skin, and have never had a leak with a prefold and thirsties cover. I could have saved so much money if I had only bought them, instead of the million cute pockets I have!

I wouldn't buy a single pocket. All it took was prepping them to discover I hate stuffing them. Sold them for dirt cheap before DS was even born!

Re: If you could start from scratch...

I would have done only prefolds and fitteds at the NB stage (I guess everyone is different, huh?) and then I would have only bought poppy fields fitteds and wool for after that, well I would probably still have bought the dozen GMD prefolds I have for each size as back-up/camping diapers but definitely wool! I also have 2 ragababes in each size +inserts for going out and I guess maybe I would have still bought those, but I really only use those as back-ups when going out now too (if I run out of fitteds in my diaper bag).

Wouldn't have tried Kushies or Babyland! (for the record, Kushies worked well, but I just didn't like them!)

Re: If you could start from scratch...

I am starting over right now. I sold off my stash because of constant rashes etc. and now I am buying again but I am being forced to not buy my typical stash She was reacting horribly to our prefolds, workhorses and wool so I am investing in some pockets. I hate hate hate pockets but I feel like I should try them. Its only been about two months since I sold off my entire stash.

Would have only done flats, prefolds and covers. I have a couple dozen fitteds and three pockets I never reach for.

Grovia AIO's and shells, thirsties covers, GMD or Osocozy flats, GMD prefolds. I wouldn't have even messed around with the Fuzzibunz pockets I bought.

I would only have a stash of simplex aio's and sbish. That's it! Although I did really love the stash I had, I found the simplex were reached for the most, and I only had 8

Re: If you could start from scratch...

I actually did/am restashing from scratch. Here's my perfect stash.
1 Dozen Flats
1 Dozen Prefolds
6 Fitteds
6 AIOs
6 Pockets
6-8 Woolies Per Season
1 Thick Night Soaker
6 Covers
3 Wetbags
2 Pailliners
3 Snappis

That is perfection to me! :-) A lil bit of everything to suit Ny mood. I love prefolds and flats most but need a few extras for fun and when I'm busy.
