Definately not my cup of tea but I'm not big on nickname sounding names or things that are "different" on purpose. Carter is nice and something he can grow up with. I always try to think about what will happen later on in life when he's chosing careers or later. What impression does the name Gunner give as an adult no matter how neat it would be for a kid.

I'd lean towards Carter.

I don't mind the name Gunner. It's not something I'd choose, but it's not a bad name. I do like Carter.

Ok, this is REALLY funny because my sister wants to name her son Diesel. She said "it's like, the ultimate cool guy name" She's not even pregnant yet. (and they aren't trying)

what's the first letter of your last name? Don't want the initials spelling anything weird.

OT, but every time I hear the name deisel I think Vin Diesel. LOL I guess you can get used to just about anything, especially if it's attached to a cute baby bundle. I admit that I was a little taken aback when my SIL announced the name of their little boy to be, Augustus. Even more conversation stopper worthy, a co-worker of mine named her youngest ds Christophilus. I think most of us just said "oh!" Well that's a neat name. (insert crickets chirping sound)

Re: what do you think??

Both sound fine to me.

At least your DH wasn't hellbent on naming him Grady (that is the DH wanted to give to DS#1). It took quite some time to get him off that name and I said from the start that it was not an acceptable name for DS#2.

Luckily we agreed on Rhys for DS#2 right off the bat.

ETA: Easton James

Re: what do you think??

Easton's a nice name.

I knew a Gunnar - but I think it was pronounced "Goooo-Nar" The European version!
