I am so sorry. She and your whole family look like such a loving, wonderful family. She is in my thoughts.

My husband has this, it is genetic, his mom, grandfather, great grandfather have all had it, so he had a colonoscopy at 18. His GI doc said that if he did not have surgery soon he would be dead by 30, so we were prepared, because we knew what would happen. The reason it is SO important to find out if this is what it is, is because it is genetically possible to pass onto 50% of your chidlren. If one of her children has the gene, even if she does not survive, she'll want them to not ever have to go through this.

So many prayers for her. What a rough road she has ahead, and how heartbreaking to have all of your life ahead, at 24, and maybe be looking at the end of the road. Prayers for her children, too, that they may have a chance to know and love their mommy.
The doctor is very insistent on getting the genetics figured out for the cancer cells. He also believes it's something that one of the other family members could possibly have as well. Her appt for the genetics testing is next week.

I'll be praying for your sister for sure! I have worked with many colon cancer patients as an RN, but I can only remember 1 as young as your sister. It was genetic in her family. It's a very hard road to travel. Your family will definitely be in my thoughts and prayers!

Re: My 24 year old sister was just diagnosed with stage 4 Colon Cancer *UPDATE 5/17*

I'm so sorry about your sister. Cancer is so horrible on the family but it can bring you closer than you can ever imagine. Take it one day at a time. I do know a lot of what you are going through. The uncertainty, the fears, the tears, it's all normal but so difficult to deal with. Make sure you take time for yourself in all this. Sometimes it's so easy to just let your needs take a backseat while your family member is going through this, so just make sure you are taking care of yourself. I hope she gets through this. So young, It just breaks my heart!

My husband has adenocarcinoma of the prostate. I wonder how similar they are. But it sounds like your sister has a fighting chance so hang in there!
