S/O kids and fake tattoos

I was in the tattoo thread and it got me thinking. What do you all think of kids having fake tattoos? I'll refrain from speaking my mind as of yet so I can get some honest answers here.

My kid loves getting them. It makes me look horrible as a parent, mainly because after a week it looks like a bruise. But if it makes her 5yo heart happy, so be it.

I don't like 'em, I don't hate 'em. I guess it's better than drawing on yourself with a Sharpie or attempting to use an eraser like we used to do back in our young school days.

We don't do them here. I'm not a fan. However, I don't judge other parents for allowing them.

I don't mind 'em at all. In fact we included them in goodie bags for our 1 year old's birthday party, and both of my kids got one on their arm. Once they started wearing off after a few days, we took them off with baby oil.

Re: S/O kids and fake tattoos

I have no issues with them. DH and I have pretty visible tattoos, and plan to get more when we can afford them, so it would be silly, I think, to tell my kids they can't have their own kid appropriate too.

Re: S/O kids and fake tattoos

I've bought my boys funny little pirate ones (aaargh, matey! with some goofy pirate) and Thomas ones before. They are now 5 but this was when they were 2 and 3. My nieces (around age 12) had really intricate roses & skulls and dragon ones on their upper arms (not the cheapo ones like I bought but around $10+). It was before they got all boy-crazy, but if their parents were letting them put ones on their low back, etc...I guess that'd be a little weird. IDK, it's fake, it washes off, I guess it's not a huge deal to me...

Re: S/O kids and fake tattoos

My question is does anyone think that fake tattoos actually promotes real tattoos? Kind of like fake makeup or candy cigarettes?

My first reaction was "not at all!" but I think it depends on the situation.

If the parents are not tattooed at all, then a fake tattoo is not going to promote real tattoos, period. (IMO of course) It's just something pretty or funky or fun, whatever. I used to do fake tattoos all the time, when I was a kid, and my parents are NOT tattooed at all (they hate the idea LOL) and they had no problem with me having them.
(in fact, my more expensive-bought ones when I was older, I didn't want them to go to 'waste' by wearing them, so I transfered them onto my walls so I could see them all the time. I think a bunch are still up there in my old room ) I also used to LOVE getting henna tattoos.

Now... in our case, both DH and I each have one tattoo. We want more but that's all we have right now. DD likes my "pretties" (I have flowers on my ankle), and has asked to have pretties like mommy. I don't mind putting fake tattoos on her at this age (3). and we'll have more in-depth discussions about it when she's older. If she wants to get a real one when she's old enough, I hope that DH and I have taught her (and DS) well enough to think long and hard about them before she decides what and where to get it. I'd rather give her the support and 'critique' her idea so that she doesn't go out and get something silly that she'll regret later.
