mamas with older kiddos . . .

When did your lo learn to wipe themselves?

DD has just started going to preschool in the mornings & I'm worried about her going poo at school. I mean, she'll probably be fine if she had to go, but I know it would be awkward for her to have to ask the teacher to wipe her, kwim? We've been practicing a little bit lately but it's no where near perfect. So I was just wondering about what age your lo learned to do this task by themselves? Thanks mamas.

my almost 5 y.o. still needs help most of the time though he hates to let me help him. I don't remember exactly with my oldest, it's been a really long time since i had to wipe his bum. Maybe 5-6 y.o.?

eta: and at school i highly doubt the teacher is allowed to wipe bums

I was thinking it might be about that age . . . and I also wondered if the teacher did that? I haven't worked up the nerve to ask her that. All she mentioned at the orientation was to make sure they had clothes on that they could easily pull up & down by themselves. DD better practice some more & hope for the best lol.

Re: mamas with older kiddos . . .

We started encouraging the boys around age 4.5 (both potty trained around 3 - 3.5). I could trust DS1 to do it properly probably by around 5 years old. I still have to check DS2, as he doesn't quite do it well enough yet.

Ask the school, though - they're all different, so who knows. The teacher might be available to help the kids if needed.

I was thinking of adding a poll at first but it looks like 5 or 6 is about the age. If the opportunity comes up tomorrow I may ask when I drop DD off. I have to ask a few other questions so I may just throw that one in there. I've been trying to get DD to go before we leave in the mornings lol.

I just remember when my oldest was in preschool, the teacher said specifically that they were not allowed to even help them button their pants. This was a head start type program.

All my boys have wiped by themselves by age 4.

really? I guess it all depends on how early you start giving them the opportunity huh? We've got some work to do around here lol. DD has been trained since age 2 1/2 (very early imo) but for 2 years I've still been doing that job for her out of habit. It never really crossed my mind until now.

Yes, but how good are they wiping at that age? Probably not very good, especially if it's a messy one.
