speech problems

My daughter was born june 2009 and she still isnt really saying anything but mama. She was talking really well at like a year and a half but than stopped. She had a doc appointment and they ruled out autism. They are giving us three months to work with her just in case its because shes been around babies since she was a year and a half. if she doesn't start getting a better vocabulary they will start speech therapy. Im just wondering how ya ll kiddos are doing. do they talk pretty well?

Re: speech problems

My dd is the exact same age as yours. She doesn't talk a lot. But, her vocab is starting to pick up finally. We were getting worried too. In the last two weeks she has gone from only saying mama and dada and kitty sometimes to says mama, dada, kitty, tete, potty, poop, bye bye, eat, dink for drink Jaime and juju. gio(her brother) tonight she even put two words together she said bye bye pawpaw. I hope your dd picks up soon. I was literally in your boat two weeks ago and worried sick. We didn't do anything different, but stress words more and withhold things until she attemped to speak in some way with coaching

Re: speech problems

My son was born in December 2009 and he has a good vocabulary - but every baby is different. Does she repeat words if you point things out to her? One thing to consider - did anything happen around 18 months that could have disrupted her routine or security? A move, divorce, switching daycares, etc ... Disruptions like this can really affect babies when we usually don't think much of them. Good luck!!
