Can I Freeze Fresh Basil?

So we are having a bumper crop of basil right now and I don't want to let it all go to waste (and I know I'll regret it in January). I've heard of people making pesto, freezing it in ice cube trays and taking it out and using it as needed. I am short on time right now though. Can I just pick the basil and throw it in baggies and put it in the freezer? I'd rather do it this way than dry it and lose that fresh flavor. Anyone done this before? TIA!
