My WHOLE family has allergies- I've only had them since I got married and moved to this area. We decided to purchase air purifiers to see if we can get off our allergy meds (yuck!). We got a big hepa 99.97% for our living space, and a small hepa 99.97% for each bedroom.

Heres the question. I know ionizers are bad for you with excess ozone and all that. The two small bedroom models, in addition to the filter and fan, have optional on/off ionizers. If I keep the switch off, I don't have to worry, right? The smallest one still smelled funny (but I hoped it was new filter smell. Our humidifier sometimes makes the same smell), so I hoped one of you mamas was an air purifier expert?

I am a baddie. I loved my Ionic Breeze & its ozone smell. It smells peaceful to me.

Re: Lets talk allergies and air purifiers...

We use winix...They have optional "plasmawave" features which I think is the ionizer, but I don't think it's bad either way. I think i remember reading that the amount of ozone these types of machines can make is basically negligible compared to other common household appliances. We have 2 - one in our bedroom and one big one in the living room. We keep the plasmawave on in the living room and off in our bedroom because the light bothers DH at night.
