Re: Damn it. Am I going to be okay?

I will call my Dr. Monday morning. I KNOW I have been exposed to it all ready, and I KNOW one of my kids have had it....so I probably already have the antibodies.....right?

Re: Damn it. Am I going to be okay?

My oldest 2 kids actually HAD fifths when I was preg w/ #3...We were all admitted to the hospital (same quarantined room) and they monitored me and the baby closely while taking care of the 2 kids for me (I was a single mama then)....in the end baby and I were both fine.

Call your Dr and ask their opinion but I am sure you will be
fine

Re: Damn it. Am I going to be okay?

I *just* went through this - one of my high school students had it, and no one suspected b/c she's 18 and it's a kid's disease. She had to be pulled from my class and I had bloodwork done. I ended up being immune from prior exposure, so it's okay. 50% of adults are immune and may not know it. If you're not immune and you get it, there's a chanc eit could cross to the baby and cause anemia, which *can* cause miscarriage, but not too often. basically, if your bloodwork comes back as you not being immune, they'll also be able to tell if you've been recently exposed. If you have, or just to be careful, they'll monitor you with every-other-week ultrasounds to check for signs of anemia. if the signs show up, they do an in-utero transfusion.

It's most likely that you are immune or your dd is from rior exposure. Basically, your dd would have to contract it, then give it to you, then it would ahve to cross to the baby - that's a lot of unlikley things, but you still need to be checked out.

It is a parvovirus, it is airborne, and the best way to *not* get it is to wash your hands a lot.

Hope this helps - it was a stressful week for me.

Most likely you have already been exposed.. My Midwife told me with my age 28 I have most likely been exposed either from kids or had it as a child.. So not to worry... My son had it a few weeks ago..

Re: Damn it. Am I going to be okay?

Sounds like a good plan to me! 5ths is the 5th childhood disease, like measles, mumps, chicken pox, etc... So just like the others if you have been exposed you have antibodies and won't get it again, as far as I know. So most likely your dr will tell you everything is fine, he/she may still want to do a blood test to double check your immunity. Sounds like you should be fine though!!

You should be fine from the sounds of it but no hurt in putting the call in to your OB. (((hugs)))
