Yay, we told the parents finally. :D

So we were going to wait and tell them on Wednesday, but we told them this morning instead. DH wanted so badly to tell his parents in person and was trying to get them to come down here this weekend, but b/c of their work schedule and no money, they couldn't make it, even for one night.

So about 10 minutes later, we decide to just go ahead and tell them anyway. DH calls his mom back and the conversation goes like this:

DH: So, we know you can't come down this weekend b/c of finances, but do you think you can save up some money and come down in October?
MIL: Oh well I can definitely come up earlier than that.
DH: But can you come down in October?
MIL: What's happening in October? (small gasp) Are you pregnant?
DH: Yep

Then DH called his FIL and started the conversation the same way. They got to this part:

DH: But you can come down in October?
FIL: Yeah.
(long pause)
DH: Don't you want to know why we want you to come down in October?
FIL: Ok why?
DH: October is 9 months from now.
FIL: Is she pregnant?
DH: Yep.
FIL: Congratulations, son.

Then we called my mom. Background on my mom... both of my sisters work, and my mom has been keeping all of their children from birth. Right now, they are 5, 3.5 and 2.5. All boys.

I am going up there in June for a wedding, and DH put Mom on the speakerphone so that I could hear her reaction too, and asked her if I could bring up "a couple of kids" with me when I came up for the wedding.

Mom: A couple of kids, what do you mean?
DH: Lydia and her other kid. The one that's not born yet.
Mom: Is she pregnant? Does she know it's a girl already?
DH: No, we're not due until October.
Mom: Is Andrea there, let me talk to her.

Then Mom wants me to take her off of speakerphone, and she asks me if it was planned and if DH has a job yet. I was a little hurt and told her so and that I thought she'd be excited. She had to go then b/c the boys were being rambunctious, but she called back 20 minutes later to say that if DH and I are excited, then she's excited. And later today when I called her again, she seemed a little more into it, so hopefully her initial reaction was just shock, lol.

Anyway I'm glad that part's over.

That is really cool about your IL's! Mine were ecstatic, too. This is their first grandchild. My mom freaked out. She was so excited.

Awe well at least it MOSTLY went over well

my mom was the only one NOT overly happy about my pregnancy too - but within a month she had a business trip out of town and came back with 6-7 gender neutral newborn outfits and a big hug for me and kisses for my belly she got into it really quickly and even though she still says (and is right) that it wasn't a good time and we should have waited, she is TOTALLY into her baby, I baby lol she loves Shae to death and would be lost without her!

I'm glad the IL's are excited and that your mom is coming around! I was shaking like a leaf when I told my mother, and I was 10 weeks at that point! She had figured it out weeks earlier though and had time to adjust to the shock. DH hadn't found a job yet after coming back from Iraq (and the job he has now is only entry-level, hoping he can get ahead in the next few months) and we're living with them right now, so it wasn't the best timing. My MIL felt the need to give us her opinions on finances and such, in a kind of ridiculous way...I finally wrote her an e-mail and told her, as nicely as I could, that we are adults and would like to be treated as such. I basically asked her to mind her own business, as sweetly as I could. It seems to have worked so far!

I think a mum's first reaction is to make sure her baby is going to be taken care of - so I'm sure your mum's reaction was one of love and concern for you! Glad she came around though, and that your ILs were so happy!

We still haven't told my ILs yet. They have a bit of a problem not leaking secrets! I'm trying to wait until after 8 weeks but with this morning sickness, I think they're going to catch on soon!
