Would You Refuse C Section at This Hospital?

Briefly here is my birth bio. First was a c-section for failure to descend on doctors timetable. Next seven births were unmedicated VBAC.

Fast forward to now. The only facility near me to offer VBAC has this policy: They induce at 3 cm, or if you show up in active labor your only option is another c section.

I am strongly against being induced for no medical reason, and because it has a higher risk of rupture. I am also strongly against c-section for no medical reason.

What would you do??

Home birth?

Since you've had 7 births since but I'd also would want to be near the hospital should something happen.

So um yeah no help sorry

A home birth doesn't appeal to me that much but I guess that might end up being a last resort option.

Could I just refuse a c section in active labor and they would not be able to refuse care?

Can you appeal the policy based on your previous successful VBAC's?

I would ask about what they think. Since you've had so many births after your section.

If anything come in at the very last possible minute. Where it would be harder to do a section since baby is crowning

If homebirth isn't for you I would travel.to another hospital, even if that meant staying with family elsewhere for a week around due date

Huh... I echo what you already said, can't you just refuse the c-section? That might be their "policy," but ultimately it's up to you... you would probably just need to sign something.

Or come in late, ready to push? I would not want a scheduled section or induction either one, just because of policy, and especially not after 7 vbacs!!

Re: Would You Refuse C Section at This Hospital?

The only options I see are anther hospital, midwife and home birth, induction, or outright C-section.

I have helped a woman achieve a natural birth at a C-section happy hospital. Failed to do the same for myself. It is extremely stressful for you to be fighting for a natural birth while in labor. Been there done that, failed big time.

Experience has shown me doctors and hospitals can say what they wish before the birth. However, it is their history, in this case over management of labor, that tells you best how they are most likely to respond when it comes right down to it.
