The Ultimate "How to dye BGs" thread

I am about to start a dying frenzy, and I wanted to get all of the info in one place.

Dying directions, courtesy of another post by sleeky_meerkat:

1. They have to be NYLON or WOOL (will not work with cotton or PUL)
2. Boil a pot of water
3. Add 1 cup vinegar
4. Stir
5. Add desired amount of Kool Aid (the little packets, WITHOUT sugar)
6. Stir
7. Reduce heat to steaming; keep at medium/low heat during dyeing
8. Add your diaper; one at a time*
9. Stir and flip diaper until color is what you want (30-60min)
10. Rinse diaper in COLD water
11. Wash diapers in washing machine; warm/cold wash
12. Hang dry

And, YES, you can dye BG colors.

OK- now who wants to post color formulas and other tips?

WHen I did it it worked best for me after your step 9

Step 9 1/2:
I let my BGs sit in a bowl of cold water with a cup of vinegar...it makes the color set and my BGS NEVER bleed after I did this....

then I washed

Re: The Ultimate "How to dye BGs" thread

I keep telling myself I am going to do this... then I worry I'll miss my white.

Has anyone come up with a koolaid formula for "khaki"?? We use bG!s under his church clothes b/c of their trimness and the pants slide so easily over the nylon.... I would love to figure out how to make a color that goes with his pants.

Kelley - is that the baby bathtub bucket? How do you like it... I am so intrigued after seeing it at a vendor during the GCDH.

Tamarindo might work for a kakhi-ish color. The powder is brownish.

Make sure you get Kool Aid Tamarindo because Flavor Aid Tamarindo is a rusty burgundy color. And I do not think Tamarindo will make Khacki. You can buy a 100% nlyon fabric at the fabric store and test with a strip to see the color. I did this so I knew not to dye my BG Tamarindo Flavor Aid! I bet Tamarindo KA would be a cool brown...

I bet you could dye khaki with either coffee or tea. You'd just need vinegar to set it...

It's worth the try!

Hey! That's me!!

Thought I would add the pics of my dyed BGs and the formulas I used to create them:

Color Formulas:

The ORANGE (started with WHITE BG) was just: 3 packets of orange Kool Aid, 60min or so in the pot.
The GREEN (started with Grasshopper & Butternut BG) was: 2-3 of Lemonade, 4 Lemon-Lime, 60 minutes in the pot.
THE RED (started with Twilight BG) (was an experiment, don't quote me i just threw a bunch in the pot): 3 Black Cherry, 4-5 Hawaian Punch...maybe 1 Lemonade (?) I don't remember, 60 min in the pot.
