Too much bread!

I'm looking for suggestions on what to do with the heels of our loaves of bread. No one in my family eats them. I've made some into bread crumbs for meatloaf and such but we go through 4 loaves a week so I end up with 8-10 extras each week. I only make meatloaf once in a while.

I don't want to just toss them. In the summer I might take my boys to a duck pond but it's often geese there and they pretty aggressive.

So, got any ideas?

French toast!!

The dry end parts are the best. Let them soak for at least an hour in an egg/milk solution (you can add vanilla, orange peel, rum, a pinch of salt, whatever.. for more flavoring), then fry 'em up in butter... serve with real Canadian maple syrup.. YUM.

Ha! I do sometimes turn it inside out for a pb&j for my mds. He usually doesn't notice. He's the only one that eats a pb&j though.

Re: Too much bread!

I used bread crumbs to bread chicken breasts for chicken parmesan or baked fish.

Re: Too much bread!

Oooo, I saw a recipe the other day for french toast cups! I can't find it now, but it was pretty easy. Tear the bread and put it into muffin tins, make an egg/milk mixture with whatever spices or seasoning's you want, and then fill the cups about 2/3 way full. You can add chopped bacon/ham/sausage to the tops if you'd like, or you can add veggies inside. Very versitile and I think you might be able to freeze them.

Re: Too much bread!

Use it for stuffing. My mom would save the heels on the freezer all year, then she had tons for stuffing at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
