Pregnant, sick, and miserable

I have an awful head cold right now. Even when I'm not pregnant, I tend not to take medications. I prefer to let things just run their course. This cold is kicking my butt though. I've taken Tylenol a few times today and done some saline nasal spray, but it doesn't seem to doing much of anything. I went and bought some Sudafed to help with the congestion hoping I could get some sleep tonight, but the pharmacist suggested I wait until tomorrow to take it because it causes jitteriness in some people.

Ugh, I just want to take some crazy strong medication, sit in a ridiculously hot bath, and pass out for about 12 hours.

I hope you feel better soon- are you sure it's not sinus infection? I though I ha a head old when I was pregnant w/ds2, but when I started week 2 I had to go in. It was a sinus infection, and even after antibiotics it was about a full month (start to finish) before I got over the darned thing! :/

Ive been there. Just be glad it ain't tooth pain. I had a tooth pulled 4 days ago. I was in level 20 pain for a straight 48hrs. Nothing relieved the pain. I was crying horribly and could barely catch my breath. Worst pain ever. I was rocking back and forth for hours.

And now today I have a cold after getting the whooping cough and flu shot on friday. I'm 32 weeks and 4 days and Journee thinks its funny to non stop move today while its all I can do not to throw up.

So I totally feel your pain!

Yes, Zyrtec and Claritin are both class B drugs, so you can take them. My doc switched me to Zyrtec for the pregnancy (I was on Allegra before).

I'd be conservative with the Sudafed. It's generally recommended to not take decongestants in pregnancy because it can decrease blood flow to the uterus, but if you are truly miserable and having trouble breathing, then it's better to take a couple doses because if you can't breathe, then neither can baby. I'd add in some vitamin C & zinc to try to boost your immune system too. Hope you feel better!
