"When are you going to stop?"

My mom has an amazing best friend who is very dear to me. She didn't nurse her babies so I guess she just doesn't understand. My baby boy is 6 months old. Every time she sees me she asks, "So, when are you going to stop breastfeeding." I always tell her, "When he is ready." Recently I started adding the World Health Organization and the AAP stance on BFing just to give her the idea that "When he is ready" won't be anytime soon. I love this lady, but these kind of comments driver me bonkers! Oh, and my brother said to me at some point because of I don't even know what I said, "well you could just stop nursing him, he's not a little baby anymore." I'm like *brother dear- our mom nursed YOU until you were a year old- shouldn't your nephew get at least that?! Nursing a 6 month old is not dirty!
Anyone else encounter this?

Yeah, I get this too from my step-mother. She thinks pretty much everything I do is weird.

Thanks!!!

I get so tired of responding, just because others didn't extended breastfeed, doesn't mean that they need to question my decision to do so. My ds and dd will be fine and they will quit when they are ready to do so.

I used to always get this question, and I always responded with "Oh, I'm sure we'll be done by the time she leaves for college". People finally stopped asking about a few months ago. DD is 17 months old. Maybe they just accepted "she'll never wean" and gave up.

Re: "When are you going to stop?"

I got it a lot with my oldest until she was about 2 and then I guess people just wrote me off as the crazy breastfeeding lady. My oldest weaned at 4 1/2 year old. I don't get asked at all about my youngest who is 2 1/2.

Frequently. I'd tell my people that he is MY baby because I grew him and I feed him, and will continue to be MY baby until I stop..so around age 30.
