You don't HAVE to wet them. I have found though that putting lemon juice on them and then putting them in the sun works wonders for stains.

I have also sunned all year round, outside. The stains do eventually come out, even with little sun....one time I sunned and my diapers froze, haha, but the stains did come out after being left outside all day.

I live in a townhouse and was thinking of just laying them print side down on the deck...do you think that'd be ok?

Yes, I just bought some used wool covers and one has a stain How long do I leave it in the sun before accepting it's not going anywhere?

Sunning is so hard here in winter in WA. I pin mine to the outside of the blinds, and sometimes it takes days and days and days.

We live in Mexico City and the intense sun here does get a ton of staining out, however I've had a few stubborn ones that won't budge! Possibly because we don't have hot water option for washing machine, or possibly because they are microfiber inserts and they don't bleach-out with the sun as well as the cotton ones? Will have to check!

So glad to have stumbled on all of this great info! Definitely trying this for my diapers- Living in South Fl. means we have abundant sunshine that I'm not taking advantage of. Thanks, all!

I'm sunning some prefolds I got used today. I mixed lemon juice with water. Soaked them, then wring them out. The stains on the first few diapers were almost gone before I hung all if them out. Amazing!
