Baby Thermometer?

My step sister wants me to help her in listing some baby essentials, we all have listed everything except for a thermometer. It seems so hard to choose what kind of thermometer because there are a lot of thermometer now. Well, I can recommend mine, but I want to know what kind of thermometer you are using for your babies? What will you prefer, a rectal, an ear, forehead, arm or an under the tongue thermometer?

We use the Exergen temporal (forehead) thermometer. It works really well for us and only takes a second to get a reading. Babies R Us sells it for $37.99 and there is a mail in rebate for $20 on the manufacturer's website http://www.exergen.com/babythermometer/

Our hospital requires a rectal temp when calling with concerns, so I always had a rectal thermometer (got for free at the hospital when baby was born), but I also keep a forehead one that you just hold on the temple- if I was worried I used the forehead thermometer, if it was high enough to b e concerned enough to call the doctor then I would use the rectal, but would save that until the forehead one confirmed my concerns.

Re: Baby Thermometer?

Our doctor recommended a rectal thermometer due to reliability so that is what we purchased.
