22+ lb. forward facing with detachable base?

Hi all-

Our (very big) 6 month old is soon to outgrow his rear facing Graco Keyfit. We like the ability of being able to remove the "seat portion" of the carseat WITHOUT having to unstrap/unlatch the entire seat.

Is there a model out there that has a detachable base that will work for the "stage 2" (i.e. 22+ lb) of our child? (Preferably forward facing, but not necessarily!)

Re: 22+ lb. forward facing with detachable base?

6 months is too young to forward face. I has nothing to do with size. Everything to do with development of the bone structure and the takes time and maturity. You can find many seats that rear face to 35-40 lbs. Some that even go to 50 lbs. Although 5 he 50 lb one is expensive. But last I checked Walmart has a cheap $40-50 convertible cars eat that rear faces to 40 lbs.

While some debate the need to rear face past 2 years, I have yet to hear anyone knowledgeable about car seats and infants who would agree to forward facing an infant of 6 months regardless of the child's size.

Well even if you take out the "is it safe" factor I don't think it is legal, at least not in the states I know about to forward face before one, and some states require a child to be rear facing until two years old.

I don't know of any car seats that have the seperate bases besides the infant buckets.

Where I live it is the law for a baby to rear face until 1 but it is recommended they rear face much longer.

When you say your son is almost outgrown his carseat do you mean by weight or height?

It is not safe to forward face a child that young. Period.

My oldest son was 22lbs at 6mos he weighed almost 30lbs at 1yrs old I then bought a Diono radian & rear faced him.

Britax Frontiers don't rear face.

Maybe you mean a Britax Marathon?

Lol nope I just remember wrong on which seat we bought for what kids at what stages is all. I now realize we got the Diono radian for him when he got to big for the bucket & then we bought the Britax next as it is wider than the radian & passed that on to his younger brother..
I will go fix my post now that I feel silly, I was in such a hurry trying to find links I didn't think to much about what seat when we used them I like those seats they are great! It also stands out to me as it was the last big car seat he used..Ya know what I mean

I am obsessed with my Diono Radian but it doesnt come out like a bucket carseat does to be carried like OP wants.

Re: 22+ lb. forward facing with detachable base?

Hi all, OP here: Message received re: forward vs. rear facing. I'm happy to keep him rear facing.

However....he is still outgrowing his seat (by length). Even with the straps at the highest setting, he is probably just a month or two from being too tall for the Chico key fit 30.

So, at this point, I should revise my request: I'm hoping to find a larger car seat that still has a detachable 'bucket'.
