Part time work - when to pump?

My little guy will be 7 mos this week and is EBF. I am thinking about working a couple days a week but wondering if I could get by without pumping. Shift would probably be 5 or 6 hours.

Would it hurt my supply to not pump and pump before or after or not at all?

Re: Part time work - when to pump?

I think I could get by with those hours, not pumping, so long as you don't have a long commute and can nurse right before and after. But... Everyone is different. Have you had any struggles with low supply at all? If so, id try to fit in a quick pumping session in the middle of your shift or maybe at the four hour mark.

Eta: how often does your lo nurse? If he has a 6 hour stretch, you will be fine.

Re: Part time work - when to pump?

Commute is only 15 minutes or so. If I were to go back to work I would probably work 9-2 and on a typical day he would nurse around 11:30-12ish. We have a freezer stash so having a bottle/sippy cup wont be a problem. Low supply hasnt been in issue *knock on wood* but if I go back to work I thought I would up my intake of milk increasing foods (oatmeal, lactation smoothies, etc.)

I just dont feel comfortable pumping in "public". I hate even doing it at home. So I was hoping to avoid it.

I read that 4am-5am is the best time to pump...I always got a lot then!

I would carry a pump to work in case you needed it. Or, buy one to leave there.

Good luck!
