Re: Weekly Chat May 18th-25th

How old is you oldest, Melissa? I would say that it depends on his age/temperament. If he could be happy reading and doing quiet activities (puzzles, legos, Workbooks), then I say go for it. Also probably depends on his dynamics with his siblings. Do they fight a lot? I like the idea of storing it for those just in case moments. Also, can your kids play outside by themselves where you live? That will help, too.

What kind of computer do you have? We've never owned a TV, we just watch videos and DVDs on the computer.

Re: Weekly Chat May 18th-25th

I've suggested getting rid of our tv for years...but DH *needs* his espn My kids are allowed at most one 30 minute PBS show a day...and thats usually when i need some quiet mama time or a quick snooze on the couch with them lol. I've wanted it gone for so long, but some days lately(and i expect once baby gets here) i *need* that 30 minute show KWIM?

that said, my kids spend at least an hour outside by themselves(fenced in yard) and read books quietly, play in their room quietly or color quietly when asked...but sometimes, TV is the best babysitter!

I cannot store it it's 46" and we dont have garage or anything. We cannot do movies on the computer (well we could but we don't have room by the computer for the kids to sit). ODS loves reading but won't do it all day, Legos get tossed all over the house by YDS so those are for YDS nap time. DD and ODS fight every time they are together (they drive me crazy) I am the mom that dreads weekends because they will be together all weekend. ODS doesn't ever get invites to "friends" houses because he doesn't do well with kids his own age. All my friends with kids have either already moved back to America or are leaving July

I have come to the realization I will just be leaving it out till after baby is born and we are on some sort of a routine. I just don't want to be going crazy if I dont have to. I told DH he could get rid of it when he comes home at the end of November (for his 1 week home from deployment) well I to,d him he could get rid of it sooner but he leaves first week of August for deployment and I cannot move the tv or the huge entertainment center. I guess if baby come early July he could get rid of it before he goes.

ETA, my kids spend a lot of time outside later in the day but I have to sit outside with them since we do not have a fenced yard and they are 4 and 2. It gets like 100degrees with 90% humidity most the summer in Okinawa so I don't think my big hormonal but will be spending to much time outside this summer. When ODS is in school I always am gone at least 3 of the weekdays doing something with the little kids (story time at library, parks, shopping ect... ) but ODS doesn't do well out and about. He gets board (we do things that all the kids can do but that means that sometimes ODS is to old for them) and when he gets board he acts out and get destructive (he is in therapy for anger management). I just don't see myself going out as often when he is home with us.

Re: Weekly Chat May 18th-25th

not sure I could get rid of our tv but we do go through phases where our DVR shows start getting deleted because we were too busy to sit down and watch the recordings. It's set up to record new shows and delete old ones if space isn't available. We only have the one tv set up to cable. The small one in the guest room has a dvd player with it but I don't even know when the last time it was used. It's in the sewing/guest room now so I guess for some background noise I could listen to a movie while I sew though the machine would probably drown that out. I usually just listen to my ipod.

Yeah, I would hold onto the TV, Melissa! I don't think you'll regret it
