Anyone NOT do a glucose test?

Back story is that I DID my 1 hour. The thing is I couldn't get a straight answer to weather or not I was supposed to fast. I did after the nurse told me too. Turns out he was wrong and I failed my test with a 144 reading. My OB is being a butt and won't let me do it over. He wants me to do a 2 hr fasting test. So they would take a fasting reading before I drink that crap and then 2 more after. Here is the problem I can not get to the hospital to do the test before 10am so I wouldn't be able to eat till after 12. Not coo!! He said I don't have to do it if I don't want to but he recommends it. I have never had GD before and am very low risk. I am 26 and have gained 16lbs so far at 33w.

What would you do, give in and take it or not?

Re: Anyone NOT do a glucose test?

I did not do a glucose test with DD and have not done one this time. My midwives this time and last time said it was optional, and as I had none of the GD warning signs, I opted out. If you don't have any signs, I'd just skip it! If at any point you begin to show any symptoms, you should be able to take it then.

Due Date Crashing, but NO with my last, I did not do it. I did get a tester to test myself and monitor myself. It was helpful and comforting and may be a good compromise.

I think this what I will do and if they are elevated I will go take the 2 hour.

I personally think it would be more expensive and annoying to monitor yourself... Meaning multiple sticks and you would have to get a monitor unless you know of someone with one. Just my opinion but I personally would do it

A monitor is $10 and dealing with a cranky over tired (she naps at 10:30ish) toddler at the hospital for 2hrs (i cant get to the hospital till 10 as my son doesn't go to school till 9:30 and they don't do tests on weekends) when I haven't eaten is way more annoying than sticking myself a few times a day. The only other option is to wake my kids at 6am so I can get to the hospital by 7 and hope we make it back by 9:30. I will do option 2 if my levels aren't normal over the weekend.

Re: Anyone NOT do a glucose test?

I did it with my first. Then i got smart. I haven't done it with the other two. My midwife was okay with that b/c there are many other things that will point to GD. I understand the pee will tell and of course other factors. I personally just wouldn't do it.

I refused this time. After talking with my midwife about all my possible risk factors we decided it was totally safe not to bother with the test.
