Isn't wool itchy?!?

So, I'm confused. I see all these wool longies, and covers, and they are soooo cute, but aren't they itchy on the babies legs? I would love a pair of longies, just for the cute factor, but am concerned about them irritating my DS's skin. So, what's the deal?!?
Thanks in advance for your explanations.

Not mine! I only use really soft sweaters for recycled wool and there are lots of differect types of wool yarn out there. Some BFL, purewool and coriedale (sp??) are as soft as cashmere.

I wonder the same thing! That is the one thing that has kept me from buying any wool thus far. I think about myself in a wool sweater (expecially in the SUMMER! when I see pics of all of these babies in adorable wool soakers) and I freak out. Yuck- prickley heat!

I hear it's supposed to be more breathable- but I can't imagine it would be more comfortable...

all of the wool that we own is super soft, infact much softer and gentler on the skin then jeans and such. My kids have never had a problem and they have super sensitive skin! and yes it is very breathable! we use only prefolds and wool and absolutely love it!

If wool was scratchy all these mamas wouldn't be putting it on their babies! All that I have is wonderfully soft. When you lanolize it it comes out even softer than before.

Re: Isn't wool itchy?!?

We use mostly merino and recycled cashmere which are very soft. BFL is also very soft but I haven't tried it yet.

As far as being hot, it's breathable. Don't think about just wearing a wool sweater in summer, but think about a wool sweater vs a plastic bag. The wool would be much cooler because it's breathable. The plastic bag would get very sweaty.

Re: Isn't wool itchy?!?

I bought a few wool items for my son when we started CDing. The peace fleece shorties were itchy and made him break out. A couple of other knitted things I bought were soft, but still irritated his skin. The Disanna soaker was the only thing that didn't make him break out. He has EXTREMELY sensitive skin. But the peace fleece was the only one I found to be itchy.
