I also don't understand why a sitter should have to make less money because you're out longer; that really doesn't make any sense to me. Their time is their time and they're selling it to you.
Not sure how it came about that we would pay a sitter less for more time? We would never do that.

I don't mind paying her what she asked for. It's just one of the reasons why DH and I don't go out much because it really adds up. That's all.

Re: How much do you pay a sitter?

we pay $10-$12 an hr depending if they have just one kid or both. that's what I charged when I babysat & I wouldn't want to pay someone less.

um.. see the quotes below from earlier in your thread. That's where the idea came to pay a sitter less because it's more hours.

You can find more information on rates for your area by calling a Child Care Resource and Referral (CCR&R) if you have those where you live.

I know you do not want to loose your sitter, so maybe you will need to talk to her before the next time you need her help for more than 4 hours.

Re: How much do you pay a sitter?

I feel cheap bc we pay our sitter $7.50/hr. She is a friends younger sister who is still in high school and usually does 2 hour chunks. If she does a long day or night or something we usually just lump it all into one amount and a little less if DS is already in bed when we go out bc in those situations I always allow her to bring a friend over too.

Re: How much do you pay a sitter?

We pay $12/hour for all three kids, and I round up to the nearest $5. So, if we have a sitter for 4 hours, I would pay her $50, not $48.

We only pay a day rate at daycare. Babysitting has always been by the hour.

Like I said before I don't mind paying her (she's certainly worth it) but I don't understand how some people can afford sitters every weekend. That's definitely not something we have in our weekly budget.
