Re: Raw milk

I get mine for $4 a gallon from a small local farm with 4 Jerseys. They even deliver it to my door! We have to supply our own jars, which is no problem. I bought a few of the gallon glass jars of pickles at Wal-Mart for around $4 apiece, dumped the pickles, and scrubbed and sunned the jars.

I don't see why drinking raw milk during pregnancy would be any different than at any other time. I've been drinking only raw milk for 5 years now, and went through tons of it while pregnant. It was one of the few things I could consistently get down!

Re: Raw milk

I grew up on it... my mum would drive to a farm and get it for probly 2 or 3$ a gallon but I pay 8$ it's considered a boarding fee thou not actually the cost of milk as it's illegal to buy raw milk in most States sadly. It's pricy but it's the one thing that is very important for me that my kids grow up getting it so def worth it

Re: Raw milk

Of course there are farmers who slack in any industry so my personal thought is to go see the cows and the facility yourself - any farmer running a clean operation would let you come in and see the barn, the animals and milking parlor.

I pay $8 donation to the cow owner per gallon. Local prices in stores are way higher.

Re: Raw milk

We just started drinking raw milk and I love it! We had to buy a share of the cow and then it is $20/month there after, so we pay $5 per gallon. We also get ours in 2 glass Ball jars that are a half gallon a piece.

Re: Raw milk

We have been drinking raw milk for over 4 years now. I have drank it during 2 whole pregnancy's with no problems. I buy my milk from Jersey Hollow Farm in Kutztown, Pa and I pay $2.75 a gallon. It has been great how much our health has improved since we started drinking it!

Re: Raw milk

I've only done a small amount of research on raw milk but I'd really like to feel comfortable with it. My husband is a bit of a hard sell. My highest concern that I haven't seen a lot of answers to is the saturated fats/cholesterol. Does anyone know about this? It's easy to say that our bodies will compensate for what we don't consume, but this can't be true when so many people have high cholesterol levels etc, yes? I know that genetics plays a strong role in this but if your genetics don't deal well with cholesterol or saturated fats...could this be a problem?

I REALLY want to be talked into this so any info would be so appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: Raw milk

We used to pay $7/gal, but we barter farm labour for it now, which saves us $28/mo
