Brown Rice Issues

I didn't know where else to post this, so I thought I'd try here. I have a 19 month old and oddly enough I think yesterday was the first time he had plain brown rice. He's had white rice and rice cakes and they were just fine with him. Yesterday at my in-laws he ate a lot of brown rice and today it's coming out in a soft/loose stool and undigested. Is this common with brown rice? He's never had this issue with rice before. I don't "think" it's an allergy, but is that possible? I think if he had an allergy all rice would affect him. I would love some advice in this area, thanks!

Re: Brown Rice Issues

White rice is gummier and more plain starch. It's not as healthy, but it probably does digest more quickly. Brown rice has more fiber and if your LO doesn't have a lot of teeth yet, it may just be going straight through him? My DD is 18 months and I haven't really given her any rice yet because she wouldn't be able to chew it much.

However, if I cooked it in the oven with plenty of water until it was nice and fluffy, it might work. (I usually do instant brown rice, which isn't as fluffy) A lot of people don't cook brown rice long enough or with enough water and it's still somewhat hard and chewy. That would definitely make it harder to digest.

Yes, it's the chewing. dd didn't thoroughly chew when she was little so I would make her brown rice cereal. It's just ground up brown rice that you make like grits. and brown rice noodles too.
