I'd recommend flats too, I still use on my 7yo overnight and 4yo during the day. Are you happy to use diaper pins? I find on an older kiddo pins are essential :-)

Kijani Baby makes great nighttime training pants up to 6 years, and they have optional doublers as well if you need extra absorbency. My 6.5 yea old wears them with no leaks
