Re: extended breastfeeding?

I was ebf until over a year. Almost 25 and going strong. Also, not vax'd and haven't had any childhood diseases. We'll do the same with my little one. Also, my mom bf all of us for extended periods. Long after solids were introduced.

Re: extended breastfeeding?

One of the most detailed personal accounts of baby-led intro to solids I've found is here:

http://tribalbaby.org/babyLedEating.html

I love the idea of skipping all the mush.

Re: extended breastfeeding?

A friend did this because her older dd had severe allergies- everyone was very healthy.

We plan on doing child led with #2 but if she is obviously ready for a little bit of finger foods at say 10 months I'm not going to withhold it.

Re: extended breastfeeding?

We are still almost exclusively breastfeeding at 15 1/2 months. She has just started experimenting with solids but is not all that interested. I see nothing wrong with it for the first 2 years as long as baby is happy and full.

Re: extended breastfeeding?

you guys are so helpful and reassuring! this is all stuff I thought but its good to hear it from you all. thanks.
I didn't know about the child led stuff. I always learn great stuff from DS
Thanks mamas! I'll definitely hold out on solids until past 1- even though my huge boobs are really getting in my way!

Re: extended breastfeeding?

Logan was exclusively bf until way after 12 months old. He has food allergies and that was the safest thing for him that our allergist even suggested. I followed his lead when he was ready for solids. I did have solids available for him from around 14 months on. He is perfectly healthy and did not really incorporate solids into his diet on a regular basis until he was 21months old. He is now 24 months old still nursing and a wonderful eater

Re: extended breastfeeding?

Presley was EBF for a little over a year (I actually tried to introduce solids but she refused them) and she still received about 90% of her nutrients from breastfeeding until she was about 18 months old. At 21.5 months old shes still nursing but only at nap time, bed time, and middle of the night.
