Leaving LO

Our anniversary is coming up and DH and I want to go out of town. DS will only be 5 1/2 months by then though. I BF, but he does occasionally take a bottle of EBM. Any suggestions about how long is okay to leave him? I would plan on pumping while gone, but don't want to lose my milk supply. TIA!

Re: Leaving LO

I think its a personal decision. at 5mo, I might have been convinced ot go out for dinner & a movie, but never overnight or longer.

if you go, you need ot pump at least as often as dc would eat to maintain your supply.

and start pumping now to have enough of a stash by the time you go. g'luck!

Re: Leaving LO

My friend pumped and left her DS with her in-laws. She was gone a whole week and pumped those whole time (every 3-4 hours).
She left her DS when he was about 8-9 mos old.
She also never got her Ds to latch on too and was able to breast feed him until he was 12 mos (then she stopped pumping)

Re: Leaving LO

I recently returned to work as a flight attendant after three months of maternity leave. My supply was well established when I returned (I even had extra to donate to the milk bank). I was gone for four nights, about 14hours each night (returned home during the day). The first two nights, I was able to pump exactly enough to feed DD while I was gone - not able to get any extra. The second two nights, my supply dropped and DH had to use some of the freezer stash. I'm not sure if it was the stress of leaving DD, the lack of sleep while working, or the fact that the pump couldn't completely empty my breasts...but my supply dropped in only four days (Next week will be my last week away from DD...I found a new job that allows me to take her along).

Re: Leaving LO

Thanks for the info ladies! I think we'll make it a short trip(overnight) and save the long trip for next year.
