Cold milk?

We're trying to get her to take a sippycup, for she is refusing a bottle. She will drink water from it, but doesn't seem to take it after she gets a taste of ebm. I'm thinking it's because of the temperature change, but not sure.

So is it okay to give her reasonably cool milk, instead of really warming it up, or could that be breeding grounds for bacteria? Thanks in advance!

Re: Cold milk?

I was told there is no real reason to heating up BM from the refrigerator other than preference of the baby. If the baby will take it cold, then it is fine to give it to them cold. The real need to heat it up would be if the baby wont take it cold, or prefers it warm to cold. HTH!

If you have cold breast milk that is completely fine after warming, what would make it bad before? The little warming does not remove any bacteria. Cold BM is safe (if stored properly, but that applies to warmed milk too, naturally!)

Re: Cold milk?

We have always given DD ebm cold. Our doctor said that as long as she will take it that way, don't go through the extra step of heating it. But if she isn't taking it, try warming it - it won't hurt anything either way.

Re: Cold milk?

I never warmed it up for my son. He took it cold and the less I had to do the better.

With it being so hot down here (in Ga), I've been giving ds sippy cups of cold ebm. Also, I wrap frozen bm cubes in a clean cloth and secure it with a rubber band and he teethes on it.
