Tax Savvy Mamas-What Does this Mean?! NEVER MIND!

We sent in our tax paperwork several weeks and figured we were getting $700 back from federal (my bil who has a finance degree helped us do it-he does every year). So this morning I check our bank online and see that our return is pending.......but its for $1,594 I just called my dh and he said that they must have found an error and corrected it-has anyone heard of this happening before? I'm trying not to get too excited but

Ok-I just rechecked our bank and the number has been changed-darn it It must have been a glitch on our bank's site? Blah

I guess it's possible. Having a finance degree doesn't garentee that a person is GOOD at doing taxes. I have an accounting degree and I HATE HATE HATE doing taxes! If I were to get an accounting job now, it would be in auditing not taxes. There are tons of rules to keep up with and I just don't want too! I have found that folks who have taken a class like the one H&R Block offers almost do better with tax preparing. It's a more focused study. I had one serious tax class in my 4.5 years of college. I remember very little at this point. lol

When I called my dh to tell him he said this actually happened a few years ago-we underestimated it by a couple hundred dollars -hmmm I think we need to fire my bil But we only pay him via lunch at McDonalds to begin with LOL!

Our taxes came in low. Turns out THEY screwed up our HSA (not us!) and we will be getting a second check. They give you an 800 number you can call to ask about discrepancies. I would call in to double check before you start spending that money prematurely!

There was that extra credit this year too. $800, I think, if both spouses worked last year....

I haven't worked out of the home for over three years so that can't be it-maybe we forgot to add all our kids or something Last year we got $1,800 back so this makes more sense since nothing has changed.....so it was probably an error on our part (well my dh and bils LOL!).

Do you have copies of your w2s & stuff still? Maybe sites like turbotax still will work? I dont know. We've done our taxes for the last 2 years online with turbotax & h&r block & I can't imagine us getting much more back. They went through every credit I got when I went into h&r block too, so I like it. & we've done the free one both times.

ETA- I mean to just input the numbers & see what it gives you, don't file it again. If it tells you you can't b/c youve already filed just make up SSNs.

Sounds like the Making Work Pay credit was credited to both of you.
