My Mood:

I had a baby almost 4 months ago and I'm EBF. About a month ago I had heavy bright red bleeding that lasted at least 7 days. Since then I've been spotting off and on. The spotting is mostly dark and there have been clots..not so many clots the last couple times though.

I've breastfed 2 kids well over a year and didn't get my period back until a few months after I had quit.

Anyone have any idea why I've been spotting off and on for a month now?

I do have a history of miscarriages and I'm not on birth control so its crossed my mind that maybe I've miscarried but could this be normal too?

Take a test and see if anything comes up? Your body may be adjusting still, I am not really sure. Maybe get in to your ob and get things checked out.

Re: Bleeding

I have been spotting for about a month on and off. It can be norm and i read that you can have this if baby isn't eating every 4 hours on the dot 24/7.

While it can be normal, I would go in to your doctor just to be sure everything is ok.

A retained fragment of a miscarriage can absolutely result in that kind of bleeding and over time it could be come life threatening. Better safe than sorry.

This can be totally normal, but I would get a once over at the doc.

If you are not feeding through the night, you are likely starting your cycle again. Usually you have to feed once between 1-4am for prolactin levels to stay up enough to prevent your period from coming back.

Re: Bleeding

have you started eating soy or change your diet at all? have you added a nuk or any baby food or a bottle?
when i started spotting at 4 months, it was directly related to protein bars made of soy. I would have milk plummet and start spotting. I didnt add it up so it was random of me to eat a bar but I am very sensitive so even a half bar would make me spot and drop my milk.
