If you want to teach him to sign have you tried signing time? It is great and my deaf sign language teacher suggested it to me. We love it here.

My 2 year old DD can talk but still uses the "milk" and "more" signs. It's really cute. She'll go up to family when she wants more of something and say "mo" and do the hand sign. They look at me like "what is she doing with her hands?" They get so confused. lol
