Re: What Age for Dating

I believe that girls and boys should not be alone together if they are attracted to each other because even the most mature children can do stupid things. Once they are 18, they can be more responsible for their actions then when they are minors. Unless they have a diploma and a job, I don't give much credence to any teenager being "responsible". One decision on the fly can make a baby, which is the biggest responsibility there is. It just isn't worth the risk.

I'd say 15 or 16, with a person we've met and approved of, and we know where they're going/what they're doing and a cerfew is set.

Depends on the kid - and their definition of 'dating'

yep. I must know the person first: parents, birthday, grade point average, drivers licence number and licence plate number, dental records.....

Re: What Age for Dating

It totally depends on the kid, and who they want to go on a date with. My husband says 16 across the board. I say that's BS. There are a lot of circumstances in which it's not bad for a kid younger than that to date. I say as long as we approve of the person they're going out with, and they're going somewhere very public, and they're socially ready for that kind of thing, then it's fine with me. That may be 12, it may be 17. Depends wholly on the kid.

Re: What Age for Dating

I said 13 because a one-on-one date for a 13 year old may be as simple as a walk to a burger joint then a stroll back through the park (i think that was my first date ;-).
I truly believe that whatever age you feel it is comfortable for your child to be trusted to go somewhere alone with another child (boy or girl) of the same age, or very close in age.

Re: What Age for Dating

We tell the girls between 16 and 18 years of age. BUT it will really depend on their own maturity and behaviours.
