5-6 weeks pregnant, empty sac? UPDATE!

way too early! Happened to me too and it was a completely viable baby, hes 2wks old now.

Same exact thing happened to me this pregnancy. Had spotting, went in at 6w2d, nothing but an empty sac. Dr was not too optimistic but said come back in a week. After already having 2 miscarriages before our DD I was sure it was over. It was a very very long week. Went back 7w2d and there was a perfect little baby with it's heart beating away. I couldn’t believe it and was sooo glad my Dr didnt offer a D&C or push that on me. I'm 15 weeks now. So tell her there is hope.

Also have her check out misdiagnosedmiscarriage.com there are so many stories that are exactly the same as mine and the other pp's it really gave me hope thru that whole looong week.

I had the same thing happen... 5 week u/s showed nothing, and here I am 30 weeks later awaiting my little boy! tell her not to give up hope yet. She may have ovulated later than she thought and not be as far along as she thinks she is... that's what happened to me.

I've had that three times (for some reason I always have one in between viable pregnancies?) and I never did the D&C, just waited for nature to take it's course, which it always did a little later. It's soooo hard emotionally, hugs to your friend

A blighted ovum is more common that people realize, similar to a chemical pregnancy, but further along. Everything starts to develop like normal, the sac, yolk sac, etc but the baby never develops for whatever reason. My friend had an u/s at 8wks with her 2nd baby and they found 2 blighted ovums with the baby. They didn't know if they were all from that cycle (naturally occuring triplets) or if they were from previous cycles and they never passed.
It could very well be that she's closer to 5wks and there's nothing to see yet. I had a very early u/s and was told I was probably having a m/c because there was nothing in the sac and no HB. I was only 4w3d so there wouldn't be much visable at that point anyway! Duh! LOL I went back at 7w?d and there was a beautiful HB!! He's now 4.5!

I had an u/s done at 5 weeks with my 1st pregnancy and it was the same thing, but come to find out I just wasnt as far along as we thought.

With my DS, I had some spotting at about 5 weeks and an u/s was performed. There was an empty sac. The doctor was pushing for a D&C, DH said no. We waited and just a few days later, there was a fetal pole that had formed. IOW, it's way too early.
