The government and vaccines

Do you think Vaccines should be required? Or do you think that parents should be able to choose what they want for their children?

i think it should be that the parents get to choose. you know its funny, i remember the first time daniel ever went to his ped. i remember the dr seeing him and saying nothing bout getting a vaccine and then after him a nurse walk in with his hep b vaccine. i was so shocked that tehy never even asked if i was going to vaccinate him. I was but it would have been nice?

Re: The government and vaccines

i feel like we should be able to make our own choices. i know we can, but not many realize that. if it were voluntary, and the govt wanted to 'encourage' us to vax our kids, they could put the information out there for us to make informed decisions. i am positive the vast majority would still vax, but they would be making informed choices, unlike now where most don't even know what vaxes their kids are getting or have gotten or what the vax is supposedly for. i am not against vaxes, but i wish parents were more involved and informed. i know they can choose to be, but many see drs as the be all and end all in child care decisions and i think that's wrong.

Re: The government and vaccines

I think it should most definately be a parent's choice and it's ridiculous that the govt thinks they have the right to control what is injected into my child's body. I wish more parents would do the research because half of them do vaxes because they think they HAVE to.

Of course I think it should be up to the parents. I think there should be a way to get the info more easily. I think doctors should actually talk to the parents about vaccinations.. Instead they tell you it's gotta be done or they will call CPS on you. :grr:

and because of this we have children dying and/or getting seriously injured. It's just sad.

I think it's bad enough that they can take your dog away and kill it for not getting vaccinated, even if the dog has had an adverse reaction to the vaccine in the past. No way the government has any business making potentially harmful vaccines mandatory for our children.

Well.... it IS up to the parents. No one forces you to vaccinate. Lots of parents don't KNOW they have a choice, but that's more their fault, imo. Even "mandatory" vaccines aren't. There are always loopholes.

We don't vaccinate, we kept our sons intact, we use cloth diapers, we co-sleep, we extended RF, we breastfeed, but we watch too much tv and I totally dig plastic! Everyone has their issues, lol.

Re: The government and vaccines

Yeah but the Schools make it difficult on the parents. I also feel it should be law that dr.s let the parents know of any harmful things can come of the vaccines. Meaning they should have to pass out ALL information on the Vacines and then do the vax at a later time.

Does that make sense

In some states, that is correct. However, here in NY, it isn't so. You have to have a religious or medical exemption and we didn't have that. To put our ds into kidstart, we HAD to vax him (he was on a delayed schedule) and YES, it was important for him to get into kidstart. His speech has improved so much since he started.
