Re: The government and vaccines
It's a parent's decision.
BTW, I use a religious exemption and I'm not religious. Just makes it easier.

Re: The government and vaccines
I also chose the religious exemption and am an atheist. Vaccines are still against my belief system.

I haven't had to deal with it yet but if our state requires the HPV vaccine, I'll need a religious exemption for my girls and I will be needing one for my son since I skipped some with him. |

But, in the end, I didn't need that at all. The only thing the district here required of us was signing the back of her immunization card they keep on file at school, and they marked the box for religious exemption. That was it. I still have the exemption forms on hand in my own files for all the kids and our Doc has a copy in each of their files so there are no questions asked when we go.

Everything I have read about getting an exemption in NY says you have to PROVE it's a religious exemption - meaning a signature from a clergy member of some kind. We're not religious at all.

A case where those who were not "sincere" in their beliefs were not granted exemption.

I know a lot of people that have claimed religious exemption and are not religious in the least. They had to choose something, and went with that. Chances are, the government won't mess with people claiming religious freedoms, unless it's a matter of life or death. And even then, it's hard for even the government to overrule that. Freedom of religion means ANY religion.
