Re: Lil Peeps Baby Talk - June 20-26 - Happy Father's Day!!

Hey mamas! I wasn't around much yesterday, we had some Fathers Day festivities to enjoy. We went out to dinner w/my daddy last night, had a wonderful time! Today is my oldest little girls 8th birthday. I am kinda emotional on her birthday because she was 6 weeks early, had alot of problems, she's just a miracle altogether. To watch her grow over 8 years has been amazing! We are taking her to see Toy Story 3 for her birthday this evening, then taking her to Pizza Hut. This was all by her request, of course. The rest of the week I will be packing because we are moving out to my parents' in about 5 weeks. DH is off this Friday so we'll be heading out to my parents' house to move some stuff around and find a storage for all of our belongings. The house we live in has 10 year old nasty carpet and 3 of us have asthma....the owner refuses to do anything about it. So, we MUST move!

Re: Lil Peeps Baby Talk - June 20-26 - Happy Father's Day!!

Jenna - hope the sickies don't stay around long! DD was sick a little over a week ago and it lasted 2-3 days max. Alex and I got it a day or two later and he was sick for 2-3 days. I'm STILL draining and coughing. No fair!

Stacy - Happy Birthday to your DD, she and my DD share a birthday!

My DD turned 3 today. Three. I've been asking myself "how did that happen?!?" all day! She's turning into such a KID, not my baby or my toddler anymore. *sigh* I love how independent she's becoming and it's great to watch her learn, but thank goodness she still wants to cuddle up to me or be carried occasionally (even if she is getting so tall that it's awkward). When she gets to the age where she doesn't want to snuggle with me anymore, I'm going to CRY!

So I'm busting out one of the bottles of wine we brought with us back from Germany (aka, the GOOD stuff) in celebration of my DD's birthday (and the fact that I've kept her alive for 3 years, LOL). And to help shake off the frustration of bedtime. Alex really hates bedtime. Once he's in his swaddle pod and realizes that he's swaddled and can't really move much he gets MAD. In fact if I change him and get him ready for bed and then nurse him, he won't nurse! He's so upset that we're trying to make him go to sleep that he pops off the b00b nonstop and screams. That just makes him swallow air which makes it worse. Ugh. I'm going to have to nurse him BEFORE I get him ready for bed. Either way, once he's in the swaddle and being rocked he SCREAMS bloody murder for at least a half hour, often more. I remember DD doing this too, but she didn't yell for as long as he does and I wish I could remember what age when she stopped! He fights the swaddle and fights going to sleep until he wears himself out. I've actually started to put in ear plugs to muffle the screaming a little bit since it's so close to my ear while I rock him. It's not gas, it's not a pain cry at all, and it's not his "I'm uncomfortable" cry. It's a flat out "I don't want to, you can't make me, no way!" cry. Whew!

Erin~ Just wondering...have you tried not to swaddle him? I tried swaddling DS in the beginning and he would do the exact same thing. I finally just started putting him down without it and he falls asleep much faster. He can sometimes still get pretty fussy but if I can nurse him and he falls asleep or almost to sleep I can lay him down in his bassinet and he will fall asleep if he hasn't already.

Stacy~ Yea for B-day's

Jenna~ SS about being sick.

AFM: We had a pretty good weekend. We made it to two B-day partys on Saturday and on Sunday we celebrated with DH's mom and SD, my parents, and DH's sis and hubby and our nephew (who just turned 1 on Sat.) Man, it felt like a longgggg weekend. We had fun though and so did DS.

Ok dont laugh but i just discovered audio books. ok well i knew they had them but i thought they were crappy books like our library had. anyways. i have mild dyslexa and read on a 4th grade reading level i'd say (mind you I graduated high school lol, talk about fail lol) so my bf told me the twilight books were better than the movie so I found the on audio book like she suggested and wow. i'm in love.

I tried way back in the beginning and he'd just smack himself in the face and wake himself up within 20 min. Thanks for the reminder though - it's something I can try again. No harm in seeing if it works now.

Re: Lil Peeps Baby Talk - June 20-26 - Happy Father's Day!!

Erin, Liam has been doing the same thing. It's WAY worse when we don't swaddle though. Swaddling, walking while bouncing in dim light, and not talking work best to calm him down. We stayed up until 1am for two nights in a row (watching Bones ) before he would figure it out. One second he was up on my shoulder looking around, the next his head dropped and thudded against my neck. He was OUT for the night!

AFM, Ilse is FINALLY over her strep. She's been dragging and not at 100% since last Monday, we found out that she's developed an allergy to amoxicillin that caused her to vomit for days and not eat ANYTHING from Sunday evening to Thursday morning. It was BAD BAD BAD. Certainly not the way we wanted to spend our first week in Ft. Worth!

Re: Lil Peeps Baby Talk - June 20-26 - Happy Father's Day!!

Thanks Robyn...maybe I should upgrade our 5 gal bucket!!! haha!!! It fills a little too quickly!

VENT- feel free to skip!

So I have been sad/tired the past few days. I got my IUD so I was crampy and DS has a double ear infection so we haven't gotten much sleep (probably the culprit)...and DH is stressed out about finances and I feel like he is dumping on me.

I just feel so alone...my family/close friends are out of state and I haven't been home since last june. We don't get together often with friends around here, because we aren't that close. AND my DH wants to sell one of our cars, eventhough our children don't all fit in the back seat of the car he wants to keep...It just doesn't make sense to me and he throws out the "if you want to stay home with the kids you have to make some compromises" - doesn't that sound like more of a punishment??? (We couldn't afford childcare with my salary, so it isn't an option anyway) We don't have ANY extra spending to cut, so I understand wanting to cut the car, but we live in a far west suburb of Chicago and public trans is not available out here for me and three kiddos... AND he is not offering something HE is willing to sacrifice on, KWIM?

So for now, the car is on craigslist and I am praying diligently that it doesn't sell. We would have to drive him an hour one way to work if we wanted the car...nevermind that his office is only a couple of miles from a trainstation....

I know I am exhausted and would like to have friends or family around just to be here and visit, but seriously, I just want to crawl back into bed and wave my white flag!

END of VENT...sorry...

Re: Lil Peeps Baby Talk - June 20-26 - Happy Father's Day!!

Nicole - I'd be mad too! Getting stranded at home with no transportation is so not cool. If my DH wanted to sell one of our vehicles, he'd be taking the train to work!

Robyn - Alex will quiet down marginally quicker with bouncing than rocking, but my DH has foot problems (and back problems that stem from the foot problems) that make it almost impossible for him to keep up that kind of motion for more than a couple of minutes. And it's DH's voice that calms him down. My voice just makes him more mad when I'm trying to calm him down for sleep - he recognizes the "sleep cues" and fights it. DH's bass tones are apparently much more soothing. I'm probably to blame though - I was the same way as a baby. I fought bedtime like CRAZY just like Alex - sometimes I think it's that he doesn't want to miss anything! And welcome to Texas!!! We're about 3.5 hours to the west of you.

OMG Nicole, I couldn't imagine being a one-car family. That would just be too hard and dh only works 20 minutes away! He should definitely need to sacrifice something for the greater good. Anything to keep the second car! I would ask if you could move closer to his work but not in Chicago. I know better!
