moms who have been induced
just read this article
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20100621/...or_c_section_1 just wondering if your doctors did sit down and have a discussion on all the possible risks before induction

Re: moms who have been induced
i asked to be induced, without really understanding it. ended up having to have a csection bcz it caused stress on my DD...along with meconium and a dramatically decreased heart rate(in the 40's). i was really upset and disappointed...but had no choice but a csection!
wish i had known better

Re: moms who have been induced
no my ob didn't dicuss the risks of being induced, but with our first, I wouldn't have denied being induced even knowing this info. I was 2 weeks past my due date, and had broken out in a rash so horrible I hadn't slept in two days before my appointment and then induction later that day. I still ended up with a vaginal birth thankfully.

Re: moms who have been induced
do they have you sign something that has all the info ?
i know a lot of docs are short in time/words but their are obvious risks as with anything you'd think they would take time to inform people espeically if going for non-medical inductions |

Re: moms who have been induced
So good to finally get some national attention on this trend! So many people, first-time mothers especially, have no idea of the risks associated with early/elective induction. It is long past time to stop the over-medicalization of the labor process...give nature a chance to run it's course! Thanks for sharing!

Re: moms who have been induced
I had induction at 36 wks 6 days with both pregnancies because of elevated blood pressure and mild pre-eclampsia, therefore medically no choice as the safety of the babies were the reason for the inductions. I had no problems, but also never got to experience naturally induced labors! Both babies were born healthy, 6.0 and 6.14 weights (2002 & 2007). Tough labors though, the second one longer by 4 hours than the first.

Re: moms who have been induced
No, my doctor did not discuss anything with me, aside from scheduling it.

Re: moms who have been induced
My OB discussed the risks, however I was induced for medical reasons (if I wasn't laying down my blood pressure was super high). And I wasn't induced early. Both of my pregnancies have ended in induction, but all were full term and within days (or with one within 40 minutes) of the due date. No scrawny babies here either.
ETA: with the second, the only 'induction' we did was break my water. I was already in transition and had been since the night before. Last edited by Queen_Celeste; 06-23-2010 at 12:58 PM. |

Re: moms who have been induced
All of mine have been induced. I was a week past with all but my last who was born at 36 week because I had developed pre-eclamsia and went into kidney failure. My first OB told me all the risks but my last OB has not ever said anything.
