But not from fried foods . They can get enough fat from mama's or other milk, avacados, olives, cheese and meat...

I would venture to guess that the average American kid gets MORE fat than they need.

Actually they do. They need the cholesterol. Kids metabolize fats differently than adults do. So, I'm not saying to feed them EXCLUSIVELY fried foods, but a few times a week won't hurt them in the way that you're thinking.

That doctor needs help. That is a bad bad bad high fat diet. There are good high fat foods like avacados. If you want to give your dc high fat foods please donrt give junk food cr*p. give healthy fats like things cooked in olive oil etc..

Re: Opinion: Ped just prescribed High Fat/Fried Food Diet for 16M

How long have the stools been loose? If it is just from a virus, then I would say go with the BRAT diet that some of the op's have said. But if it has been an ongoing thing since after she turned one, there is an odd thing that happens to toddlers when they aren't getting enough fat in their diet. They get chronic diarrhea. It seems weird, but it does happen. If this is what the ped thinks is going on, then I can understand why the extra fat. Though, I would go with whole milk, oils such as olive and flax seed, avacado's, peanut butter if she can have that, and only go with chicken fingers and french fries a couple of times week until it resolves.

I guess my point is, if the diarrhea is viral...fat won't help and will make it worse. If she has had it ongoing for a couple of months, then the fat will do the trick.

I agree with trying the BRAT diet. I have also heard of the BRATY diet with the Y being yogurt. Whole milk yogurt would be an ideal food to get some fat and good bacteria into your DC.

You want to feed your DD healthy fats, not artery clogging garbage. Cheese, milk, nuts, avacodos, stuff like that. And they don't need A LOT of that to be healthy. I would not go back to that ped ever, that is ridiculous!
I totally agree!! Since when is eating things that are bad for you going to help you get better?!?! If she has an upset tummy, she should be eating bland, but nourishing foods: banana, brown rice, avocado, fruits if she wants, etc. I agree that babies & toddlers need a higher percentage of fat in their diet than an adult does, but that doesn't mean saturated, unhealthy fats!! Instead, you could give her a flaxseed or fish oil supplement.

Ummm, I would try healthier fats i.e. olive oil, avacado, nuts etc. before I'd give my kid KFC. Try having them dip bread in olive oil and eating it that way. Kids love it. It's true you do need fat in your diet for your parts to stay well lubricated, but bad fats are bad, esp. for your heart!

I called and confirmed with my primary Ped. She agreed... after 3 days of loose stools top introduce high fat, like french fries and bologna, not just greasy food but high fat food. She is not saying everyday, and from here on.

She has had these loose stools since about a Thurs last week, and the Dr believes it has runs its coarse and getting better. She also felt juice played a big part in loose stools. Which I know Zoey gets a bit at DC and our house as well.

So we will start that tonight. She
